 oh god. He said he’s no hero, but he tries to be anyway, for John. John needs to see him as a brilliant detective, always with an answer, dispassionate and yet sometimes inappropriately excited. But Sherlock just can’t let John see him being weak or sad.

While he doesn’t care a bit about what other people think about him, Sherlock desperately needs John to exalt him, idealize him, and…worship him, in some way.

Through this, through John, Sherlock has become more…human.
